| Windows NT/2000/XP Printer Problems!
Problem - Our product may request that you change paper size or printer orientation. You do so and yet our software still tells you to make the change. History - Unlike W9x, NT/2000/XP prevent any software application from changing default printer settings. We fixed this problem in 2003. If you still have this problem, you should update your product. Otherwise, you might following these 'cures' . . . CURE #1 - involves changing the orientation directly in the printer driver. Here's how:
While this works, it is a "pain" so here is a more effective solution. And you can use this solution for other things too. CURE #2 - involves changing the orientation directly in the printer driver but creates a "second" printer with that setting. Here's how:
Now run our software (or any other product). When you need to change the orientation, don't. Instead use the printer pull down list to select your "new" printer that is already set to Landscape. Our software will then use "that" printer. How can you use this for other applications? Here is a good example. You do lots of photography with your ink jet. Most of the time you are using a special paper with special ink settings that you do not normally use for printing text documents. You can create new "printers" for each. By following the above steps, you might create one printer driver preset for say 8-1/2 by 11 LTR, Portrait, B&W Text. Create another for Glossy Photo Paper, Vivid Color. Thus you might have three "printers" when done. One is your "normal" driver called Lexmark Z42. Then you have a second called Lexmark Z42 LTR and a third called Lexmark Z42 PHOTO. Each is now preset with the major settings you need based on what you are doing. Simply select that printer. Enjoy! |
