How do I print Envelopes?

ENVELOPE SIZE AND ORIENTATION PROBLEMS

Envelope printing can be an experience . . . but can be done without any problems.

No matter what printer you have, you will find that your printer driver supports only the most common envelope sizes (example: #10 business). YOU CANNOT SELECT ONE OF THESE AND EXPECT TO PRINT A 5" BY 7" ENVELOPE . . . JUST WON'T WORK!

We tell you in the HELP to leave your paper size selection as 8.5 by 11 preferably in the Portrait orientation. Do a TESTPRINT using plain paper to see how your printer will print it. Your printer may want you to feed smaller paper stock using some center feed option. We include Left, Center, and Right side feed options in the software.

Some printers relocate the start of printing when sheets are less than 11" tall so we include a 'feed or shift foward' option. When you think you have it right, cut a sheet of plain paper the exact size of the envelope and try printing.

Some envelopes may be slightly wider than 8.5" and cannot fit into your printer. In that case, we set your printer to Landscape and rotate the envelope accordingly. We show you pictures in the feed setup options. Again, do TESTPRINTs on plain paper until you find the correct settings.

You will find a setting that works . . . be patient!

Finally, don't stuff a bunch of envelopes into your feeder and walk away. Printers have a habit of jamming. Feed each one at a time. As one is pulled in, slowly insert the next envelope.

PRINTING SLIGHTLY SHIFTED

Another common problem with envelopes is that the printing appears to be slightly shifted (especially when you compare a TestPrint on plain paper). This is due to your printer having difficulty grabbing the thicker envelope. Here's a cure that works well. Since we suggest that you feed envelopes one at a time (don't stack them), as you feed the envelope, put a little pressure on it as your printer grabs it. This helps prevent any slippage during the grab process.

PRINTER HANGS IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR PRINTING

If your printer hangs half way through printing, you do not have to start over. We have included the ability for you to select an individual addresse or a new start point for resuming printing.

Just about everything discussed here is also in the built-in HELP included with your software.
